Sheffield Road, Fence - Proposed 30mph speed limit and road humps

Overview

Sheffield Road, Fence - Proposed 30mph speed limit

Sheffield Road, Fence, is a busy local through‑route, serving

  • Residential properties
  • Local businesses
  • Aston Fence Junior and Infant School

There is high pedestrian activity, especially during school pick‑up and drop‑off times.

Key Issues

  • Parent parking along the road is frequent
  • Pedestrians often cross between parked vehicles
  • This reduces visibility for both drivers and pedestrians

In addressing these concerns and to improve the safety of road users it is proposed to reduce the existing 40mph speed limit down to 30mph and introduce three flat-topped road humps within the vicinity of Aston Fence Junior and Infant School, as indicated in the plan below, referenced 126/46/TT120.

These measures aim to:

  • Reduce vehicle speeds
  • Lower the likelihood and severity of collisions
  • Create a safer environment during peak school times

A copy of the proposed Order, a map relating to it and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected during normal office hours at the offices of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Riverside House, Main Street, Rotherham, S60 1AE
