Overview
The Council is consulting on a proposed:
- Private Sector Housing Enforcement Policy
- Civil Financial Penalty Calculation Framework
These documents explain how the Council may:
- investigate housing-related offences
- take enforcement action where necessary
- calculate civil financial penalties
The law relating to private rented housing has changed in recent years, including through the Renters' Rights Act 2025. These changes have given councils new and strengthened powers to improve housing standards and tackle poor practice.

The consultation will run from 13 August 2026 to 8 October 2026.
